Student presentations on Reveal.js (AI optional)
Build the deck for the class, the seminar, or the final project, then keep it as a file: Reveal.js HTML that still opens on your own laptop years later, PDF and PPTX for whatever the submission portal asks for. Free is unlimited manual decks with no credit card and no AI; AI drafting is optional and lives on Pro and Unlimited. There is no student or .edu discount here — not because we forgot, but because Free is already $0 for the whole product minus AI, and we are not going to dress that up as a scholarship.
The job: a deck due Thursday that you still have in June
A student deck has an odd shape. It is urgent for about four days and then it is coursework you may have to produce again — for a portfolio, a resit, a thesis appendix, or the next year’s version of the same module. The constraints that actually bite:
- The submission is a file, not a link. Most portals and most markers want something uploaded — a PDF to read or a PPTX to open. A share link to a vendor’s viewer is the one format that reliably causes an email about it the night before the deadline.
- You present on a machine that is not yours. A lectern PC, a borrowed laptop, a seminar room projector with an adapter nobody can find, and wifi that a hundred people are already on. An exported HTML deck opens from a USB stick in a browser with the network off.
- Your access to things expires. Student accounts get deactivated, free trials end, and the tool you built everything in during second year may not be free — or may not exist — when you want the deck back. A file on your own disk has none of those failure modes.
- Budget is genuinely a real constraint. That is why what matters here is what the free plan does, not what a discount code would knock off a paid one. Free is unlimited manual decks — no deck cap, no slide cap, no watermark, no card.
- Group projects are coordination, not software. Four people and one deadline is a real problem, and we are honest below that we do not solve it: there is no live co-editing here.
How it works here
AI Slide Generator is a presentation builder on Reveal.js. We did not invent Reveal.js — it is an independent open-source project, and we are an editor and exporter on top of it. If the assignment is a web-development one and you were going to write the deck by hand anyway, Reveal.js itself is free and you do not need us.
- Free ($0): unlimited manual decks and slides, all templates, export HTML, PDF, and PPTX. No AI. No credit card. Free has no AI, and we are not going to re-label the manual editor as free AI generation because the visitor is a student.
- The HTML is yours to keep. The Reveal.js export is a self-contained bundle: keep it in a folder, on a USB stick, in a GitHub repo, or on a personal site. It does not call back to us to render, and it does not stop working if you close your account or graduate.
- PDF and PPTX for the submission. Same deck, three artifacts. PDF is the safe upload; PPTX is for when the brief says PowerPoint. Both are exports for someone else to open, not live-editable masters that round-trip back here, and web-only effects do not survive the conversion — so export early enough to look at what came out.
- AI on paid only: the Alie assistant, AI images, and prompt-to-deck are Pro and Unlimited features. Worth saying plainly to a student audience: a generated first draft is a starting structure, not your argument, and your department’s rules on AI use in assessed work are between you and your department — we have no idea what they are and we are not going to pretend an AI draft is automatically fine to hand in.
- API access on Unlimited: a server-side API for generating decks programmatically. Mentioned for completeness — it is almost never what a class project needs. It runs through our service; it is not a CLI, an npm package, or a self-hosted renderer, and it is not on Free or Pro.
- What is not here: no LMS integration, no LTI, no gradebook, no assignment submission, no classroom or roster, no live co-editing, no Team seats or SSO, and no student pricing. We sell an editor and an export.
Read one pricing column or the other: monthly list prices are $0, $15/month, and $39/month; the yearly toggle is shown separately below and on the pricing page.
Who this is not for
- You came for free AI slides because you are a student. Free has no AI, and the AI tiers cost the same for you as for everyone else. Several tools do give students AI credits; we are not one of them, and saying so is cheaper than you finding out after signup.
- You want a student or .edu discount. There is not one. Free already covers unlimited manual decks at $0, so the discount would have nothing left to apply to except AI, and we do not discount that.
- Your group needs everyone editing the same deck at once, with comments and version history. We have no live co-editing — that is Pitch territory, and Google Slides does it for nothing.
- You need the deck to flow into your LMS — submitted, graded, and tracked. We do not integrate with Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, or anything else. You export a file and upload it yourself.
- You want a deck generated from your essay in one click, with no editing after. Prompt-to-deck exists on the paid tiers and it will give you a structure, but the version you actually present is the one you rewrote.
- You want automatic on-brand layout that cannot be broken — closer to Beautiful.ai.
- Your deck is really a page people scroll rather than slides you stand next to — a hosted, card-based web deck is the better shape, see Gamma.
Compared with hosted slide SaaS
The honest split: they sell a hosted deck and the experience around it; we export files you own. For a student the practical consequence is what happens at the end of term — their deck lives in an account, ours lives in your downloads folder. And on price: we do not have a student tier to compare, because Free already covers unlimited manual decks.
| What a student needs | Typical hosted slide SaaS | AI Slide Generator |
|---|---|---|
| PDF or PPTX to submit | Often plan-gated — check the vendor’s own page. | Yes, on Free. Plus Reveal.js HTML. |
| A file you still have after graduation | Generally no. The deck lives in their player. | Yes. The export does not phone home. |
| Present offline in a seminar room | Often partial or plan-gated. | Exported HTML runs locally. |
| Unlimited decks at $0, no watermark | Rare. Free tiers usually meter decks or AI credits. | Yes. Free has no AI, and no cap on manual work. |
| Student or .edu discount | Some run education programmes — check theirs directly. | None. Free is $0; AI is full price for everyone. |
| Group project, everyone editing at once | Commonly a core feature. | No live co-editing. One owner, individual plans. |
| LMS submission or gradebook | Rare outside dedicated education tools. | No. Export the file and upload it yourself. |
| Class seats, campus licence, SSO | Yes, on team or education plans. | No. Individual plans only. |

Pricing
| Plan | Monthly list price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Unlimited manual decks. HTML, PDF, and PPTX export. No AI. |
| Pro | $15/month | 100 AI generations per month, Alie, AI images. |
| Unlimited | $39/month | Unlimited AI generations plus API access. |
Yearly billing is 20% off and shown separately on the pricing page: Pro $12/month billed $144/year; Unlimited $31.20/month billed $374.40/year — the list prices are the monthly ones. Read one column or the other; do not mix them. There is no student rate, no .edu rate, and no class or campus licence to ask about — Free already covers unlimited manual decks, and the paid tiers are the same price for a student as for a company. There is no Team, Enterprise, or SSO plan either: you subscribe yourself through Stripe at the number above, and you can stop whenever you like.
FAQ
Does the Free plan include AI?
No. Free is unlimited manual decks, every template, and HTML, PDF, and PPTX export, with no credit card. AI generation — the Alie assistant, AI images, prompt-to-deck — is on Pro and Unlimited only. Free has no AI. A student page is exactly where a vendor is tempted to let "free for students" and "AI slides" sit in the same sentence until you assume the AI half is free too, and we are not going to blur that to win the click. If AI drafting is what you came for, it costs money here, and no discount code changes that.
Is there a student or .edu discount?
No. There is no student plan, no .edu verification, no campus rate, and no discount code, and we are not going to invent one so this page looks generous. The honest version is that the discount would be pointless: Free already covers unlimited manual decks, every template, and all three export formats at $0 with no card, which is the whole product minus AI. What a student discount would have to cut into is the AI tier, and we do not sell that cheaper to anyone. If you want AI, Pro is $15/month at the same price a company pays.
Can I export a PPTX to hand in for class?
Yes. The same deck exports to HTML, PDF, and PPTX, and all three are on Free. PPTX is what you upload when the assignment says "submit your slides" and a marker will open them in PowerPoint or Google Slides; PDF is the safer choice when the brief just wants something readable and unchangeable. Be clear-eyed about what a PPTX export is: a file for someone else to open, not a live-editable master that round-trips back here — web-only effects do not survive the conversion. If your course requires you to submit an editable PowerPoint that the marker will annotate in place, export the PPTX early and check it opens the way you expect, well before the deadline.
Do I still have the deck after the semester ends?
Yes, if you exported it. The Reveal.js HTML bundle is self-contained: it opens from a folder on your laptop, a USB stick, a personal site, or a GitHub Pages repo, and it does not call back to us to render. That is the difference that matters at the end of a degree — an exported deck still works when you stop using this product, when the account goes away, or when the company does. A cloud-only share link from any vendor works exactly as long as somebody keeps paying and the vendor keeps existing, and neither of those is your decision.
My group has four people. Can we edit the deck together?
Not at the same time. There is no live co-editing, no shared workspace, no comments, and no Team seats — the plans here are individual. In practice a group project means one person owns the file and the others send changes, or you split the deck into sections and paste them together, or you keep the exported HTML in a shared repo and take turns. That is a real limitation for group work, not a roadmap hint. If simultaneous editing is the actual requirement, Google Slides is free for that, and a tool like Pitch is built around it.
Do you connect to my university LMS — Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard?
No. There is no LMS integration, no LTI, no gradebook sync, no assignment submission, no roster, and no classroom or course object anywhere in this product. We are a presentation builder and exporter. What you can do is export the file and upload it wherever your LMS accepts an upload, which is how most submission portals work anyway. Nothing about your grade, your enrolment, or your deadline is visible to us.
Can my professor or department get seats for a class?
No. We do not sell Team seats, Enterprise, or SSO, so there is no way to buy a class set, no admin console, and no campus licence. Thirty students here is thirty individual accounts, each on Free unless someone chooses to pay for AI themselves. If you are on the teaching side rather than the student side, the honest picture is the same one on our page for educators.
